About our Center
The mission of the Pro Humanitate Center is to develop resources on and off campus to sustain the programs initially funded by the Lilly Endowment’s Program for the Theological Exploration of Vocation.
The Pro Humanitate Center began in the fall of 2001 when Wake Forest received a $1.9 million grant from the Lilly Endowment to provide opportunities for theological vocational reflection, i.e., thinking about the purpose and meaning of your life from a spiritual and theological perspective. That initial grant ended in December 2006 and we are currently funded by a matching grant from Lilly that will last approximately three years. The purpose of this matching grant is for the University to have a few years to incorporate existing programs and personnel in order to sustain the programs initially funded by the grant.
These programs include
- International Service Trips
- Summer Internships for students interested in Ministry and/or Nonprofit work
- Faculty Mentoring groups where WFU faculty and staff enter into mentoring relationships with undergraduate students interested in contemplating their vocational calling
- Workshops and conferences that facilitate university-wide discussions regarding vocational calling.
Various campus faculty and staff members direct the main program areas of the Pro Humanitate Center. The Center also receives support from our Faculty Advisory Panel.
The programs listed above are facilitated by various campus faculty and staff that direct these three main program areas of the Pro Humanitate Center:
